Wheel in the Kids

You know how in soaps, kids are kind of like posessions, but they are occasionally used to enhance the storyline?
Well in real life, kids are used as posessions as well, I know that.
I mean in Eastenders or some real life situations you get women with drink and smoke roughened voices leaning into people's face and going ' mahhh daauurterr!' To whoever has upset their prized possession. Not because they care about the child, they don't usually know it is human, but because they own it, they don't want it tampered with.

Thankfully Hollyoaks has less of the 'Mahh daauurterr!' stuff, but the children are still not realistically part of the story. So much of the time the character operate without their children and the children are simply never there, never in the house.
Unless someone decides to write them into the storyline occasionally.

Recently Theresa's exit from Hollyoaks brought one of her children into the story, but the other remained hidden, and can you imagine someone actually leaving a child behind? No way, the other child or the family waving goodbye would have noticed even if the mother didn't.

Hollyoaks isn't great with age appropriateness, they treat kids as either too old or too young for their ages.
